Being
a solventless, odourless system without any carcinogens or heavy metals
still contained in some modern building materials makes
the
ideal indoor flooring option - application can proceed without disruption
and it is free of the hazards that may cause harm to people when released
over time in an enclosed environment.
The diversity of the designs themselves make
suitable
for just about any setting - the subtlety and understated elegance of
a residential floor, or a bold, wild statement in a fashionable clothing
outlet.
While
may
have been developed with floors in mind they are by no means the only
use. For example, the hard, resistant epoxy films are perfect for an eye-catching
benchtop or kitchen splashback, while the lightweight nature of the films
lend themselves well to purely artistic pursuits such as decorative wall
cladding.

With
the striking illusion of depth possible with
designs, people tend to think
there must be multiple high-build coats in a complicated, expensive system.
The beauty of
is that all four sample designs
shown above are only two-coat systems with an overall thickness of less
than 1mm!
The depth of the designs is merely an illusion created by the texture
of the basecoat and its interaction with the effect pigments used. This
rare ability to create such finishes in only two thin coats enable the
system to remain extremely cost-competitive
with other decorative options like tiles, carpet and vinyl.
Additional coats are optional for certain finishes that may be desired.
For example, a non-slip finish (with AS "X" or R10 rating) can
be created with a stir-in additive, or a sacrificial polish can be used
to provide a protective high-gloss finish.
A
big difference between
and other decorative systems is the quality of the resins used.
resins have been adapted from premium epoxy systems with a proven track
record of success in industrial environments. In comparison to cementitious
or acrylic-based alternatives, epoxies have far superior strength, adhesion
and hardness, which means
will outlast these traditional decorative products.

As
the resin system used is epoxy based, Artepox is designed as an indoor
decorative range because it will tend to gradually yellow when exposed
to direct sunlight. Testing has indicated that the
130 clear topcoat displays good UV resistance compared to other
epoxy products on the market, however as it will still yellow over time
we do not promote it as "low yellowing". Some measures can be
taken to minimise the yellowing and its noticeability, such as window
films or choosing darker base colours to help conceal any changes. The
pigments themselves are UV stable and the
resins are compatible with aliphatic polyurethane topcoats for greater
protection if desired.

If
a high-gloss finish is to be maintained, the floor will need to be protected
from the scuffing, scratching and staining that naturally occurs over
time. The easiest way to maintain a lasting high-gloss finish is by protecting
the surface through the use of sacrificial polishes, which are periodically
re-applied to rejuvenate the look of the floor. Please contact us for
more information.

As
products do not contain solvents, there is no strong odour given off during
application. This feature is of great benefit as it allows application
to proceed without disruption to business or harm to nearby people.

No.
The amazing
effects are generated through the products and pigment combinations and
not through any special surface preparation. Concrete preparation aims
and procedures remain the same - to provide a clean, sound, roughened
surface through grinding, acid etching, shotblasting etc. In fact, preparation
is perhaps even made a little easier with
as the basecoats allow application onto uneven concrete in one-step -
see datasheets for more information.

We've
already discussed that the overall thickness of
floors is less than 1mm, which
makes them competitively priced against other decorative styles upon initial
installation. What such thin coats also provide is a much easier and less
expensive option when the decision to change the look is made.
Unlike tiles, carpet and even vinyl, several layers of different designs
can be added directly on top of each other before the thickness becomes
an problem, e.g. raised edges posing a trip hazard. Also, the seamless
nature and the strong adhesion between coats forms a strong, integrated
floor with the underlying system - something that is simply not possible
with other styles. So when the time comes to change the look of a floor,
epoxy systems can be applied directly over the existing floor, saving
time, money and the considerable effort that removal requires.
This convenient ability lends itself perfectly to commercial settings,
where the image is continually changed to keep the look fresh.

The
system was developed to incorporate pigments with the highest visual effect,
ease of use and consistency of results. Other pigments may be used with
resins, however they mightn't perform to the same standard and there may
be compatibility issues (it is recommended to trial them beforehand).
Also, using pigments
is the only way to offer an eco-certified finish as only these pigments
have been assessed by Good Environmental Choice Australia.
