When
it comes to application of products underwater, very few manufacturers
can offer dependable coatings with true underwater capability.
has
a range of underwater epoxy coatings, adhesives and sealants designed
specifically for divers in underwater applications.
The classic problems underwater are:-
-
poor preparation of substrate,
- difficulty in application - low initial adhesion or tack, stringy products
that tend to float and create a mess on equipment, not to mention
divers,
- products slumping on vertical or overhanging applications requiring
high film builds,
- products containing hazardous ingredients that aren't environmentally-friendly
and/or represent a danger to marine life.
The
range
of underwater-applied coatings and adhesives overcome all of the difficulties
encountered in underwater applications.
The
most popular of these products is
1725 - a high-viscosity epoxy paste that "butters" easily
onto the surface. It has tremendous initial adhesion and Kevlar®
reinforcement, which gives great manageability and strength
in any underwater application. The entire
range
is certified under ISO 14020 as a "Good Environmental Choice",
with 1715 and 1725 also approved for use in potable water
applications under AS 4020. Past
applications have seen
coatings
and adhesives used as diver-applied repair compounds for municipal
tanks, water supply reservoirs, wildlife aquariums and for marine structures
such as offshore crude oil risers, piers, pontoons and even boat hulls.
